Thimo Kortmann was born in 1989 in Witten, Germany. He started doing lighting design in theatres after leaving school and did many jobs in international projects. He worked in the national theatre of Greenland and at the “international festival of arts” in Bagamoyo, Tanzania. In 2011 Thimo started his studies in lighting design at the HAWK, University of applied sciences and arts, in Hildesheim, Germany. He is now working on his Bachelor-degree to finish studying in 2015. During hist studies he is still working for several Theatre productions. In his work he combines architectural lighting design with elements from lighting design in theatre.

From stage architecture – what we can learn from theater lighting
What we do in theatre is creating rooms and moods only by adding light. I want to show how architecture can profit by these ideas of scenic lighting, and how we can create ideas with methods from theatre. Like we tell stories by light in theatres, we can also do in architecture.
