Lighting Historic Art
From 14. to 15. November, 2014 VIA Events, together with their key partner Fondazione Gaiani, organised a practical lighting workshop on lighting historic art.
The international master class, which took place in the San Maurizio church in Monza, was headed by Serena Tellini and Francesco Iannone from the well established lighting design practice Consuline in Milan.
The workshop commenced with a theoretical session on the lighting technique developed and researched by Consuline. Oils paintings are not illuminated uniformly in a two-dimensional fashion; instead every colour in the painting is treated individually, both from the point of view of quantity of light and brightness as well as wavelength. This allows contrasts and colours to be rendered perfectly. The figures and objects in the paintings acquire a three-dimensional quality.
